Boo – October 2009

October 19th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Bouvier in the Spotlight

Mister Boo (aka Boo or Boo Boo) entered the world on 7/7/07 along with ten brothers and sisters and is the love of our lives! He’s a 95 lb hunk of gorgeous Bouvier and on our morning walks has people pulling over in cars to ask “What kind of dog is that? He’s beautiful.” Also, people we meet walking want to pet him, which he tolerates, but definitely is my protection doggie. When 7 o’clock rolls around in the morning he’s in both our faces telling us to get a move on; it’s time for his walk! He also lets me know when it’s time for his breakfast, dinner or treats.

Some of his funniest traits are; he helps me vacuum, walks right alongside me and shares the work; helps me cook by cleaning the floor of anything I drop and lies right by my feet to make sure I’m following the recipe. He loves his backyard where he can chase Heckle and Jekyll (two squirrels that drive him crazy). He also sits at the garden gate between us and our next door neighbor and waits until Lisa opens her kitchen window so he can bark and cry till she comes out to pet him and make a big fuss over him. How smart is that? What a ham!

Over the years Boo has joined the “All Bouvier Training Class” where he gets to socialize with his brothers, sisters and Mom, which are held on a Saturday morning. Of course he gets to see Linda and Karl also which is always a big treat. Actually I’m not sure who enjoys the socializing the most, the Mohrs, Bob, Nancy or Barb & Warren.

Life with a Bouvier is never dull. He’s a constant companion even if he’s just lying beside me or doing his little Indian dance when he wants something (who says dogs can’t talk). He can be stubborn at times, but lots of love and kisses go a long way with him.

He’s the best.

Egor – September 2009

September 10th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Bouvier in the Spotlight

We were just going to go and look at the puppies….
One in particular kept coming back and sitting behind me in Linda and Karl’s yard.
His name was Egor, funny name….born July 23, 2008, one of Jezzabelle’s puppies.
He was kind of shy, and it made me feel guilty taking him from his family (so much for just looking!)
Dave, my husband, was away the first week we brought him home and it rained, no poured… the entire week. I remember standing outside at 2 AM (in the rain) waiting for him to “go potty” and sleeping in front of his crate so he would not feel alone. At about 6 months old, Egor had to repeat Puppy Kindergarten because he was still a bit shy….but soon he was more confident and ready to really explore!

Egor’s thoughts:

“chickens are especially fascinating…ohh…too much to resist, ok! Caught one! Now what do I do with it???? Dad to the rescue….no harm to the chicken!
The horses – wow – they are BIG! It scares me a little when they make a sudden move – they shouldn’t do that! Maybe I should stay on this side of the fence, that is what my mom keeps telling me…
You know that puppy kindergarten repeating thing….well, there was a Great Dane puppy in that class….he was way bigger than me, so I felt a little intimidated, but I was ok after we became friends, he was fun to play with!
Beginning obedience class, trying to learn to focus and keep my attention on mom and dad! Hey, how many times do we really have to do this? (can you say “boring”?)
The riding ring is a fun place…..I can JUMP! I can go thru a tunnel and a chute, although sometimes I get caught in the chute and can’t find the way out!”

In the span of one year, Egor has morphed from a very cute huggable bundle of puppy fur to a very cute huggable handsome Bouvier. We began taking him to a groomer at an early age to get him used to being groomed and now he goes every 8 weeks. It keeps his coat soft and clean and free of mats. Sometimes we do tie up his fall in a ponytail – it helps him to see the Frisbee when we play! We love to take Egor on hikes, and he goes camping with us, and has been to our Endurance Rides with the horses. He is a very good traveler and makes friends wherever we go. We also play a lot of hide and seek in the yard.

Egor has a sister, Sadie, a 10 yr old border collie, and a brother, Willie, a 3 yr old pug. They are funny trio to watch play…..We have a large fenced in yard with plenty of places to explore (and burdocks to get into). We recently started taking Egor to the barn to tend to the horses and he is being very good around the horses…although chickens are still a challenge to Egor. But, even if he catches one, he does not harm it, although the chicken is not too thrilled about it! He stands guard in the barn aisle as the horses come in and out at feeding time. He has really matured mentally in the past month and seems to understand that he has a job to do when we are around the horses.

I could not imagine our lives without Egor – he is a very much loved member of our family. As Linda and Karl have said – you’ll never be alone with a Bouvier in your home. This is so true!

Heffala – April 2009

April 6th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Bouvier in the Spotlight

It is quite appropriate that Heffala, (aka: Blondes Have Mohr Fun, Heffy and Little Miss Sunshine) is the first Mohr Bouvier to have a featured article on the website. Miss Heffala was the first born of the first litter to Jezzabelle on May 23, 2006. Her earliest photo shoot shows her snuggled up close to Mama Belle. Today, she remembers the special bond they shared and lights up each and every time she sees her “mom”.

She spent the first year and a half of her life living on the Gota Wana Moon Farm. She and her brother Houdini continuously enjoyed the fascination of hunting groundhogs, chasing rabbits and exploring the farm property. Heffala was always alert and ready to bounce off the porch to “pounce” and play in the fresh air. She is remembered fondly for the special attention she affectionately wanted to give to the house cat!

Heffala joined our family January 4, 2008 and has filled our hearts with joy and our home with love and comedy. Nine months prior, we had said goodbye to our first Bouvier, Mandy, after almost 13 great years of companionship. We were introduced to Karl and Linda Mohr through Mr. Boo (second litter) who was being groomed at our friend’s beauty parlor! His owner gave us the breeders contact information and the rest is history. It was a perfect match for all of us.

Some of Heffy’s unique talents and gifts are worth sharing.

She can tell time!!! Really… each and every day she jumps in the bed to wake me up to start another day of adventure. There is no convincing her it is too early… she will dig me up from under the covers, lick me and insist that it is time for her first walk and breakfast! As a matter of fact, she has taken a short walk, escorted me to the mail box to pick up the morning paper, eaten and already resting before most people have seen the light of day!!!

Heffala sports a “hip” Bouvier style like no other! She is fawn and has a very cute shorter cut that allows her to roll in the yard, take many long walks in the park without too much fuss to her doo. The hair on the top of her head is adorably longer… a distinction that sets her apart from the pack. Her abbreviated “fall” gives her breeder Karl something to always tease me about!!! Her athletic physique is slender and she currently weighs in at a 64.4 lbs. Heffy is a modern girl who keeps up with the trends by having a tattoo on her inner thigh!!!

On the Sweetness Scale, Heffala scores a perfect 10!!! Her personality is easy going with some typical Bouvier characteristics.

One of Heffala’s most favorite activities is having company. She is truly a great hostess, loves to share her yard, home, toys and parents with anyone who will come to play. She loves our son’s dog, Thorny who comes to visit and shares summer vacations with her down in Ocean City, MD. It doesn’t take long for her to wear him out from lots of laps out in the back yard. Her daily excitement is when her brother Gus (from her same litter) joins her for walks or visits. They live about 5 houses from each other and absolutely, without a doubt, know where each others home is. A typical play date for them involves a long walk through Trexler Park. They get along so well and even enjoy sleep over’s at each others homes. They get so excited to see one another that when each of them is told they are going to meet the other… they start jumping and practically drag their owners out the door, hydro-planeing us to the other home!!!

Heffala enjoys Saturday morning dog classes where she re-unites with many of her brothers and sisters, along with “mom” and her breeders. She is more wild about the family time than she is about the whole learning thing. BUT… she did unofficially WIN a contest where she stopped on a $20 bill when told to stop!!!!

On a more serious note, I am a Holistic Wellness Educator. I have the luxury of working from a home studio many hours of the day. This allows Heffala a special role of “meeter and greeter”. No one gets in without her announcing their presence at the door. She patiently sits waiting for them to enter and listens closely for permission to go over and say hello. Heffala has become a favorite attraction at workshops and seminars where she has assisted in healing.

Heffala is on an organic diet and supplements her diet with holistic vitamins, herbs, tinctures and nosodes for heartworm, lyme and distemper protection. Her recipe for living fully and healthy is lots of fresh air, exercise and good nutrition. Her treats consist of organic vegetables and some really great tasting fish treats. Our family is always happy to share information for increasing wellness in your dog’s life!!!!!

Give us a call anytime you want to join us for a walk in the park or a play date.

I highly recommend Linda and Karl Mohr as the finest of breeders. This is an extra-special “home” based breeder that offers tender, loving care each and every day.

I have been blessed with owning one of their pups and have had the opportunity to see many of their puppies flourishing in their new homes.
